Alchemy
"As above, so below." - Hermes Trismegistus
Western alchemy comes from Egypt. When the libraries at Alexandria were burned, Khemists took refuge in the caliph states where their art was renamed Al-Kemi - Al, meaning "of God" and Khemi, meaning both black and Egyptian. Over the centuries alchemists made their way into Europe. Employed in the courts of nobles, their knowledge of both metallurgy and medicine was prized. In dark ages alchemists took refuge in monasteries, or traveled to far away lands, returning when it was safe, fresh with new perspective. Thus was knowledge handed down from Hypatia to Isaac Newton, in an uninterrupted line.
Our best records of alchemy in the east were kept by the Taoists. Their literature tends to focus on internal alchemy and the mastery of the self, while western alchemical books are filled with legends of wealth and worldly fulfillment. Both idealized a state of perfect health and a radical slowing of the aging process through the use of specific diet, herbal medicine, and breathing exercises. In addition to the metaphysical gold of enlightenment, both systems outline a way to chemically produce physical gold in the lab. The instructions and phases are the same in Indian, Chinese, Tibetan, and Western alchemy. Each system has an inner and outer application, upper and lower mysteries, a duality that mirrors the dance of the spirits incarnation of the body, moment to moment. There is some evidence found in in petroglyphs that similar systems were once practiced in what is now Australia, both North and South America, and West and Southern Africa.
Tibetan medicine is one of the oldest surviving traditional medicine systems. In this system, one first casts an astrological chart, then examines the patient and converses in detail about every aspect of life. With the information collected, the doctor chooses from plant, animal, and mineral elements in season, locally available. These elements are combined at a moment when the stars are auspicious, and ritually ground to the rhythm of specific mantras chosen for the patient. The resulting powder is pressed into little round pills that are a microcosm of multi dimensional healing potentialities, tuned to a unique individual in a particular time and space. This system can be applied using western astrology, folk magic, and the indigenous herbal lore of the place where you live. Your remedy is a combination of animal, vegetable and mineral elements growing in abundance right where you are.
Alchemy is the ancient art that gave rise to modern lab chemistry. Alchemical tinctures are called spagyrics. They are made with respect to alchemical tradition, astrological indication, and personal constitution. Custom made flower essences, essential oils, hydrosols, and spagyrics can be wonderful tools in attuning to subtle energies and broad spectrum health. These I have available upon request. I keep small quantities of tinctures, hydrosols, and oils that I regularly create at equinoxes and solstices. These elements I combine with a soap made from ashes and Shea butter, pure coconut oil, cane spirits and spring water, to make custom essences, elixirs and bath products for your specific needs. We can create custom tinctures just for you using your astrological chart and conversing with your spiritual self.
